According to Wikipedia, the most basic definition of a Digital Twin is a virtual representation that serves as the real-time digital counterpart of a physical object or process.

Industries like Healthcare, Automotive, Fashion, and Manufacturing are embracing and utilizing digital twins to disrupt the entire product lifecycle management (PLM), from design, manufacturing, services and operations, to customer experiences. What we're focused on here at VIM, is Digital Twins for the build environment.

In the built environment, partly through the adoption of building information modeling (BIM) processes, planning, design, construction, and operation and maintenance activities are increasingly being digitized, and digital twins of built assets are seen as a logical extension throughout the entire lifecycle of the building.
